Time to get a head start on packing. Items can be stored, sold, donated or
discarded. Clear off counter tops, shelves and furniture surfaces. Clean out
and organize storage areas (closets, garage, basement, attic). Prune trees
and shrubbery.
All interior and exterior areas should be neat and clean. Deep clean
kitchens and baths until they shine. Take care of any issues, such as pet
odors, that could turn buyers away.
A home in working order commands a higher price. Time to fix leaky
faucets, mend fences, and repave the driveway.
Remove dated wallpaper, furnishings, and carpet, if at all possible. Pack up
family photos, religious articles and personal collections. We want buyers to
imagine themselves in the home, not feel as though they are visiting
someone else's home.
Rearrange existing furniture, lighting, art and accessories to highlight the
homes best features, such as fireplaces, high ceilings, or a beautiful view.
Supplement with rented, borrowed or purchased pieces, only if necessary.
Paint warm neutrals or even bolder colors to create inviting spaces
throughout the home. Potted plants and flowers add curb appeal. Pay
special attention to the front entrance.
Turn on lights, open draperies, add fresh flowers, a bit of soft music, relax,
and get ready for offers.
